Volunteer Commitment for MomoCon 2020

May 19th – May 24th (Tuesday through Sunday)

 

 At MomoCon 2020 volunteers can sign up for THREE types of volunteer positions:

• Part-Time -- volunteer for 1 shift Friday or Saturday & 3 hours on Sunday (May 22nd - May 24th)
• Full-Time -- volunteer full time each day Wednesday through Saturday & 4 hours on Sunday (May 20th - May 24th)
• Local Install and Dismantle Crew -- volunteer Tuesday, Wednesday & 6 hours on Sunday (May 19th, 20th, and 24th)

 ** FULL-TIME Volunteer Benefits **

 If you are selected as a Full-Time volunteer, you will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend: If you complete all your shifts, at the end of the 4-hour Dismantle shift on Sunday, you will be given all the swag shown below plus a check for an amount depending on your volunteer position.

o   Certified Coach or Combat DM: $250 (full-time)

o   Specialized Roles (like traveling NPCs that also serve as DM): $200 (full-time)

o   NPCs (Single Room) and Non-Certified Combat DMs / Coaches: $150 (full-time)

o   Puzzle DM or General Volunteer: $100 (full-time)

o   Local Install Group: $150 (full-time only)

• An EXCLUSIVE Ultra Rare token: Full-time volunteers receive an Ultra Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive token (Pants of the Panther) at the end of their shift on Sunday.
• One of each of the (Uncommon and Rare) adventure Participations tokens (Boots of the Bandit & Boots of the Burglar). 
• TD Tee-Shirt and Swag Bag
• FREE MomoCon Badge (will be distributed after Wednesday night training)
• Free Hotel Spot: We have a limited number of spots in hotel rooms. Out of town volunteers may qualify for a free spot in a 4-person hotel room with two queen or double beds. NOTE: Your hotel room will be available on Wednesday night, so you can arrive on Wednesday and start volunteering Wednesday evening (6-8 pm).  We have a small amount of rooms for Tuesday (5/19) check IN and Monday (5/25) check out.  If you are able to volunteer for the extended time, please contact volunteer@truedungeon.com BEFORE making any travel arrangements.  We CANNOT guarantee spots in these rooms until it is cleared with TD HQ.

 

> FULL-TIME Volunteer Time Commitments

If you are a Full-Time volunteer, you are required to help out during these hours at MomoCon:

Wednesday (May 20th): From 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm you will come in to see your area, put any finishing touches on the space, and get familiar with any effects or elements of your area.

Thursday, Friday & Saturday (May 21st - 23rd): Participate in All Hands meeting and area training at 10:00 am on Thursday.  Work event for approximately 6 hours with three 12-minute break periods.   Friday and Saturday you will have one shift (approximately 10 hours) with  four 12-minute break periods and one 48-minute break period.  

Sunday (May 24th): From 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. We will be dismantling the event and packing up the materials.  At the end of the shift you will receive your check and swag mentioned above.

You must be available at all the times listed above to be eligible for full-time status.  Please do NOT make travel arrangements outside of this schedule unless you have prearranged an alternative schedule with TD HQ.  We cannot guarantee hotel accommodations if you do not have the details arranged with TD HQ BEFORE you accept your schedule.

** PART-TIME Volunteer Benefits **

If you are selected as a Part-Time volunteer, you will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend: If you complete all your shifts, at the end of the 3-hour shift of Dismantle on Sunday, you will be given all the swag shown below plus a check for an amount depending on your volunteer position.

o   Certified Coach or Combat DM: $125 (part-time)

o   Specialized Roles (like traveling NPCs that also serve as DM): $100 (part-time)

o   NPCs (Single Room) and Non-Certified Combat DMs / Coaches: $75 (part-time)

o   Puzzle DM or General Volunteer: $50 (part-time)

• An EXCLUSIVE Rare token: Part-time volunteers receive a Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive token (Shirt of the Panther) at the end of their shift on Sunday.

> PART-TIME Volunteer Time Commitments

If you are a Part-Time volunteer, you are required to attend the All Hands meeting and area training at 10:00 am on Thursday.  You will also have an event shift on ONE day (either Friday or Saturday) plus work from 8am - 11am on Sunday at MomoCon. More specific information is detailed below.

Friday or Saturday (May 22nd/23rd): Work one shift for ONE DAY.  The shift is approximately 10 hours with four 12-minute break periods and one 48-minute break period.

Sunday (May 24th): From 8:00 am - 11:00 am. We dismantle the event and pack up the materials.  At the end of the shift you will receive your check and swag mentioned above.

You must be available at all the times listed above to be eligible for part-time status.  Please do NOT make travel arrangements outside of this schedule unless you have prearranged an alternative schedule with TD HQ.

** Install and Dismantle Crew Volunteer Benefits **

If you are selected as an Install and Dismantle Crew volunteer, you will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend: If you complete all your shifts, at the end of the tear down on Sunday, you will be issued a check for an amount of $150.
• A FREE Ultra Rare token: Full-time volunteers will receive a free Ultra Rare, Limited Edition, Volunteer Exclusive token (Pants of the Panther) at the end of their shift on Sunday.
• Ten 10-packs of 2020 Treasure Tokens ($79 value).
• TD Tee-Shirt and Swag Bag
• FREE MomoCon badge (will be distributed after Wednesday night training)

 > Install and Dismantle Crew Volunteer Time Commitments

Your Local Install & Dismantle Crew volunteer status requires you to volunteer for these times and days.

Tuesday and Wednesday (May 19th - 20th): Choose either 11am - 6:00pm OR 5:00pm - Midnight

Sunday (May 24th): From 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. We dismantle the event and pack up the materials. At the end of the shift you will receive your check and swag mentioned above.

ANYONE interested in volunteering must fill out the volunteer application by February 21st to be considered in the first round of scheduling. All volunteers MUST fill out all the applicable fields. This information will be kept secure and used to select and schedule all volunteers.  While we will accept application AFTER 2/21/2020, scheduling will begin 2/21/2020.  Apply before 2/21/2020 in order to have the best chance at getting the volunteer role you prefer.

Virtual True Dungeon – Cravenmoor: Order of the Dawn

March 27^th – March 29^th, 2026

 

Virtual TD events are run with a combination of remote volunteers and on-site volunteers at our workshop and office in Carbondale, Illinois. Please consider carefully whether or not you are willing to travel to Carbondale and indicate this preference in your application.

 

Approximate event start times for Order of the Dawn are listed below. Each individual volunteer’s schedule will depend on the position for which they are selected. For example, an NPC in Room 2 will have an earlier start time than someone in an Epilogue role.

Friday, February 27^th – 5:00pm to 9:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

Saturday, February 28^th – 10:00am to 7:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

Sunday, March 1^st – 10:00am to 7:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

 

FULL TIME

Full Time volunteers all work a full shift each day of the event. Additionally, there are two pre-event preparation and training sessions. The Adventure Playtest is open to all volunteers but is required for Virtual DMs and NPCs. The DM Tech Check is closed to everyone but DMs and DMs-in-Training, who are required to attend.

The DM Tech Check takes place the night before the event starts (Thursday, March 27^th, 2026) at 5:30pm Dungeon (Central) Time.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:
  • Virtual DM - $500
  • NPC - $450
  • Player Coach - $400
  • Admin (Innkeeper or Epilogue) - $350
  • Golem - $450
  • DM- and Admin-in-Training - $300

PART TIME

Part Time volunteers work one or two days during the event. Part time Virtual DMs are still required to attend both the Adventure Playtest and Tech Check as mentioned in the Full Time details above. Refer to the table below for Part Time requirements by role:

MULTI-EVENT VOLUNTEERING PICK-YOUR-PURPLE BONUS

Volunteers who work multiple events are eligible for a bonus Ultra Rare token of their choice from the 2025 and 2026 Standard Pack Ultra Rare tokens. In order to earn this PYP, volunteers must successfully complete either 3 events as a Full Time volunteer, 9 total Part Time event shifts, or some combination of the two. Both Virtual and In-Person events are counted towards this.

TD HQ tracks volunteer shifts for this PYP bonus. You may inquire about your PYP status at any time by emailing volunteer@truedungeon.com.

Here are three examples of volunteers earning their PYP:

• Joe T. Vol works as a Full Time VDM for the January VTD, a Full Time Player Coach for the March VTD, and then volunteers Full Time as a Combat DM at Gen Con. After Gen Con he picks a Charm of Fickle Fate as his bonus token.
• Anna May Vol is unable to work Full Time around her other responsibilities. So, she works 1 shift for the January VTD, 2 shifts for the February VTD, 2 shifts for the March VTD, 2 shifts during Gen Con, and 2 shifts during Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con she chooses to add a Bead of Greed to her collection.
• K.T. Vol has a chaotic schedule and has to work a combination of Part Time and Full Time for various events. They DM Full Time for the February VTD, work two shifts in Epilogue for the March VTD, work full time as an NPC at Ring Con, and then work a single shift as Innkeeper at Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con they ask for a Belt of the Hunter for their Ranger build.

 

A NOTE ABOUT IN-TRAINING ROLES

Training remotely is a tricky process, and we try to give all of our volunteer trainees the best chance to succeed that we can. Admins-in-Training will learn both the Innkeeper and Epilogue roles. Our usual process is to go through the process and then have the trainee work with the players in a supervised environment during the event. Both of these jobs are fairly simple to train and can be done Part Time if needed.

Virtual DMs must be trained Full Time during an event weekend. After attending both the Adventure Playtest and DM Tech Check they spend their Friday shift getting programs installed and then getting familiar with all the different tools. They will spend the rest of the weekend observing other VDMs and working one-on-one with one of our experienced VDMs to make sure they understand the VTD DMing process. On Sunday, if both the trainee and the VDM they’ve been working with feel comfortable, they will DM for players in a supervised setting. Virtual DMs must go through an event as a VDM-in-Training before they can do an event as a VDM without supervision.

Player Coaches are one of our least-needed roles in VTD. They are trained individually on an as-needed basis.

In-Person True Dungeon – Ring Con

Ring Con is a specialty event hosted by True Dungeon in Marion, Illinois. For now, we are only accepting Full Time and Local Install applications.

 

Approximate volunteer shifts for Ring Con are listed below. These times are based on event ticket start times and are not the only times volunteers will be needed. Each individual volunteer’s schedule will depend on the position for which they are selected. For example, an Innkeeper may start at noon and be done by 8:00pm, but an Epilogue volunteer in the same dungeon will start and end two hours later.

FULL TIME

Full Time volunteers all work an Install & Training shift on Thursday, a full shift each day of the event (Friday & Saturday), and a four-hour Dismantle shift on Sunday.

Full Time volunteers are expected to attend all scheduled shifts in order to earn their stipend and swag.

Full Time volunteers are eligible for a spot in a True Dungeon provided hotel room in a hotel near the event location. There are no connected hotels. Standard hotel details are as follows:

• Check-in on Wednesday, May 27^th
• Check-out on Sunday, May 31^st
• Rooms booked with two double beds
• 4 volunteers MAX per room. We will not crowd rooms.
• NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS. Only the volunteers TD puts on the reservation should be staying in these rooms.
• TD covers room and tax costs. One volunteer in each room must put down a card for incidentals.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:
  • Coach or Combat DM – $500
  • Specialized Roles (NPC/DMs, Traveling NPCs, etc.) – $450
  • Single Room NPCs (i.e. Combat NPCs, Puzzle NPCs that do not DM) – $350
  • General Volunteer (Admin, Bluehand, Epilogue, Puzzle DM, etc.) – $300
• YOUR CHOICE of one of our Full Time Volunteer Exclusive token options:

FILL-IN

As of January 29, 2026, we are opening up a Fill-In Volunteer option. Fill-In volunteers are those who cannot work a full shift but wish to contribute some volunteer hours. We are grateful to all of you who reached out to ask if you could contribute some of your Ring Con time to helping out.

Fill-In volunteers are expected to attend all scheduled shifts in order to earn their stipend and swag. If volunteering as a Fill-In, please leave a detailed list of your availability in the Additional Information section of the applications.

Fill-In volunteers are not eligible for a spot in a TD-provided hotel room.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role and number of hours worked. Each stipend will be calculated individually.
• YOUR CHOICE of one of our Part Time Volunteer Exclusive token options:

In-Person True Dungeon – Gen Con

July 30^th – August 2^nd, 2026

Volunteer as a Full Time Event or Local Install & Dismantle volunteer by March 15, 2026, and receive a bonus Ultra Rare PYP token with your swag! Details at the bottom of this document.

 

Gen Con, known as “the best four days in gaming,” is an annual gaming convention that takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana. This convention has the largest in-person True Dungeon presence of any event in the calendar year. This means that we need more volunteers for Gen Con than we do for any other event.

The table below lists the different commitment levels of volunteering at Gen Con.

LOCAL INSTALL & DISMANTLE

Local Install volunteers work three days of install (Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday) and one day of dismantle (Sunday). While we are happy to take on new LID volunteers, priority selection will go to experienced install vols who are familiar with our team’s build process.

HOTEL

Local Install volunteers ARE NOT eligible for a spot in a TD-provided hotel room. If traveling from out of town, Local Install vols are responsible for finding their own accommodations.

CONVENTION BADGE

Local Install & Dismantle volunteers are eligible to receive a full weekend badge for Gen Con provided by True Dungeon. Badges are distributed upon completion of the Wednesday Install Shift. If Install runs late, Local Install volunteers may be asked to wait until Event vols have been dismissed to their Wednesday night training before badges are distributed in order to streamline the process.

You must have your badge on your person while volunteering for the Sunday dismantle shift.

STIPENDS & SWAG

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Local Install volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Local Install volunteers will earn $400.

FULL TIME EVENT

Full Time volunteers agree to the All-Hands Meeting & Training on Wednesday evening, a full shift each day of the event (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), and a four-hour Dismantle shift on Sunday.

Full Time volunteers are expected to attend all scheduled shifts in order to earn their stipend and swag.

HOTEL

Full Time volunteers are eligible for a spot in a True Dungeon provided hotel room in a downtown hotel near the Lucas Oil Stadium. Standard hotel details are as follows:

• Check-in on Wednesday, July 29^th
• Check-out on Sunday, August 2^nd  
• Rooms booked with two double beds. If rooms are available with two doubles and a pull-out sofa we will try to book as many of those as possible.
• 4 volunteers per room. We will not crowd rooms, but will allow an increase to 5 volunteers by request in rooms with a pull-out sofa.
• NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS. Only the volunteers TD puts on the reservation should be staying in these rooms overnight.
• TD covers room and tax costs. One volunteer in each room must put down a card for incidentals at check-in. Parking is NOT included.

Additional hotel nights may be available for necessary travel accommodations. These additional nights are limited and must be arranged with TD HQ as early as possible. The deadline to arrange additional hotel nights is June 1, 2026. If you need additional hotel nights, please email volunteer@truedungeon.com to discuss the issue in addition to mentioning it in the Additional Information section of your application.

CONVENTION BADGE

Full Time Event volunteers are eligible to receive a full weekend badge for Gen Con provided by True Dungeon. Badges are distributed after the Wednesday All-Hands Meeting & Training. You must have your badge on your person at all times while volunteering.

STIPENDS & SWAG

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:
  • Coach or Combat DM – $500
  • Specialized Roles (NPC/DMs, Traveling NPCs, etc.) – $450
  • Single Room NPCs (i.e. Combat NPCs, Puzzle NPCs that do not DM) – $350
  • General Volunteer (Admin, Apprentice or Puzzle DM, Bluehand, Epilogue, etc.) – $300
• YOUR CHOICE of one of our Full Time Volunteer Exclusive token options:
  • 1x Ultra-Rare Charm of Banewatch 
  • 1x Ultra-Rare Ioun Stone of the Champion
  • 2x Rare Ioun Stone of the Hero
  • 2x Rare Belt of Biting
• Volunteer T-shirt – These are ordered based on the size indicated in your tdvols.com profile. Please make sure your shirt size is correct on your profile as we cannot guarantee we will have enough extra to change sizes on site. The deadline for changes to t-shirt sizes in tdvols.com is June 1, 2026.

 

PART TIME EVENT

Part Time Event volunteers agree to the All-Hands Meeting & Training on Wednesday evening, a full shift on two out of three days of the event (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), and a two-hour Dismantle shift on Sunday.

HOTEL

Part Time volunteers ARE NOT eligible for a spot in a TD-provided hotel room. If traveling from out of town, Part Time vols are responsible for finding their own accommodations.

CONVENTION BADGE

Part Time Event volunteers are eligible to receive a full weekend badge for Gen Con provided by True Dungeon. Badges are distributed after the Wednesday All-Hands Meeting & Training. You must have your badge on your person at all times while volunteering.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Part Time Event volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:

  • Specialized Roles (NPC/DMs, Traveling NPCs, etc.) – $225
  • Single Room NPCs (i.e. Combat NPCs, Puzzle NPCs that do not DM) – $175
  • General Volunteer (Admin, Apprentice or Puzzle DM, Bluehand, Epilogue, etc.) – $150
• YOUR CHOICE of one of our Part Time Volunteer Exclusive token options:
  • 1x Rare Ioun Stone of the Hero
  • 1x Rare Belt of Biting

 

FILL-IN EVENT

Fill-In Event volunteers agree to the All-Hands Meeting & Training on Wednesday evening, and a minimum of 8 hours to be worked throughout the convention weekend.

Some Fill-In Event volunteer schedules can be very flexible. Backstage, administrative, and some Coaching roles are able to be split up into very short time frames. However, in-dungeon roles like DMs and NPCs can only be assigned to Fill-In Event volunteers who can perform a full shift.  

HOTEL

Fill-In Event volunteers ARE NOT eligible for a spot in a TD-provided hotel room. If traveling from out of town, Fill-In Event vols are responsible for finding their own accommodations.

CONVENTION BADGE

Fill-In Event volunteers ARE NOT eligible for a TD-provided convention badge. If volunteering as a Fill-In, you are expected to arrange your own convention badge that covers the day(s) for which you are volunteering.

If you do not have your convention badge when you arrive for your shift, you will not be allowed to volunteer.

STIPENDS & SWAG

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shift(s), Fill-In Event volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. All Fill-In Event volunteers receive a flat rate stipend of $100 regardless of role.
• YOUR CHOICE of one of our Part Time Volunteer Exclusive token options:
  • 1x Rare Ioun Stone of the Hero
  • 1x Rare Belt of Biting

 

EARLY APPLICATION PICK-YOUR-PURPLE BONUS

Volunteers who apply as a Full Time Event or Local Install & Dismantle volunteer by March 15, 2026, and get accepted will receive a bonus Ultra Rare token of their choice from the 2025 and 2026 Standard Pack Ultra Rare tokens. A survey will be sent out prior to the convention to all eligible volunteers asking them to select their token so we can have an accurate count of tokens at the convention. Volunteers who fail to fill out the survey may have to wait for their tokens to be mailed to their home address after the convention.

 

MULTI-EVENT VOLUNTEERING PICK-YOUR-PURPLE BONUS

Volunteers who work multiple events are eligible for a bonus Ultra Rare token of their choice from the 2025 and 2026 Standard Pack Ultra Rare tokens. In order to earn this PYP, volunteers must successfully complete either 3 events as a Full Time volunteer, 9 total Part Time event shifts, or some combination of the two. Both Virtual and In-Person events are counted towards this.

TD HQ tracks volunteer shifts for this PYP bonus. You may inquire about your PYP status at any time by emailing volunteer@truedungeon.com.

Here are three examples of volunteers earning their PYP:

• Joe T. Vol works as a Full Time Combat DM for Ring Con, a Full Time Player Coach at Gen Con, and a Full Time Combat DM at Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con he picks a Charm of Fickle Fate as his bonus token.
• Anna May Vol is unable to work Full Time around her other responsibilities. So, she works 1 shift for the January VTD, 2 shifts for the February VTD, 2 shifts for the March VTD, 2 shifts during Gen Con, and 2 shifts during Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con she chooses to add a Bead of Greed to her collection.
• K.T. Vol has a chaotic schedule and has to work a combination of Part Time and Full Time for various events. They DM Full Time for the February VTD, work two shifts in Epilogue for the March VTD, work full time as an NPC at Ring Con, and then work a single shift as Innkeeper at Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con they ask for a Belt of the Hunter for their Ranger build.

 

GEN CON BADGE REGISTRATION NOTES

Every year we are flooded with emails asking about badges from the moment that volunteers are first accepted for Gen Con. In an attempt to reduce the questions, we have elected to include badge information here so volunteers know what to expect before they apply.

Gen Con scheduling can be a bit of a moving target. As such, we wait as long as we can before starting to order badges to reduce the number of changes that have to be made as people drop out or shift commitment options. Our first bulk badge order will be made on Friday, May 8, 2026. We will only be ordering badges for eligible volunteers whose schedules are CONFIRMED in tdvols.com and whose volunteer waivers are SIGNED.

Gen Con event registration begins at 12:00pm EST on Sunday, May 17, 2026. In order to guarantee that we will have your badge ordered and in your Gen Con account by that time you will need to confirm your schedule by no later than 8:00pm EST on Friday, May 15, 2026. This is to give us enough time to order your badge and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Failure to confirm your schedule before this deadline means you may not get your badge until after event registration opens.

After our initial bulk badge order on Friday, May 8, we will do additional bulk badge orders throughout the week that follows to catch everyone who gets their schedule confirmed and their waiver signed by the May 15th deadline.  

If you do not need a TD-provided badge, please let us know before May 8^th so we do not order you an additional badge.

PLEASE NOTE: Gen Con is our largest event of the year. We need as many volunteers as possible in order to make this work, but we need volunteers who are committed to creating an awesome event for our players. Even easy roles in True Dungeon require hard work. If you are looking for a way to get into Gen Con for free with minimal effort, True Dungeon is not the volunteer opportunity for you.
