Volunteer Commitment for GEN CON 2020

July 27^th – August 2^nd (Monday through Sunday)

There are four different levels of commitment for True Dungeon Volunteers:

• Part Time -- Volunteer for two shifts (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) and two (2) hours on Sunday (July 30^th - August 2^nd)
• Full Time -- Volunteer for one shift each day (Thursday - Saturday) and four (4) hours on Sunday (July 30^th - August 2^nd)
• Local Install & Dismantle -- Volunteer Monday - Wednesday and Sunday (July 27^th - 29^th AND August 2^nd).
• Fill In -- Volunteer for one shift (Thursday, Friday, OR Saturday) (July 30^th - August 1^st).

See below for specific details on each time commitment and benefit level!

** Full Time Volunteer Benefits **

If you are selected as a Full Time volunteer, you will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend:  If you complete all your shifts, at the end of the 4-hour dismantle shift on Sunday (unless noted otherwise), you will be given all the swag listed below plus a stipend check for an amount depending on your volunteer position.
  • Certified Coach or Combat DM: $250 (full time)
  • Specialized Roles (such as traveling NPCs that also serve as DM): $200 (full time)
  • NPCs (Single Room) and Non-Certified Combat DMs/Coaches: $150 (full time)
  • Puzzle DM or General Volunteer: $100 (full time)
  • Local Install/Dismantle Group: $150 (full time)
• An EXCLUSIVE Ultra Rare token:  Full time volunteers receive an Ultra Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive token (Greater Garnet Charm).
• TD T-Shirt and Swag Bag
• FREE Gen Con badge (will be distributed after Wednesday night training)
• FREE hotel spot: We have a limited number of spots in hotel rooms.  Out of town volunteers may qualify for a free spot in a 4-person hotel room with two queen or double beds.  Note:  Your hotel room will be available for Wednesday check in so you can arrive on Wednesday to attend the mandatory All Hands Meeting and Training that evening.  We have a small amount of rooms for Tuesday (July 28^th) check IN and Monday (August 3^rd) check out.  If you are able to volunteer for the extended time, please contact volunteer@truedungeon.com BEFORE making any travel arrangements.  We CANNOT guarantee spots in these rooms until it is cleared with TD HQ.

** Full Time Volunteer Committment **

If you are a Full Time volunteer, you are required to help out during these hours at Gen Con 2020:

• Wednesday (July 29^th):  You will have an All-Hands Meeting and Training on Wednesday evening.  This shift is mandatory.  If you have work or travel issues that will impact your attendance PLEASE let us know BEFORE accepting your schedule so we can see if we can accommodate the issue.
• Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (July 30^th - August 1^st):  You will work all three days of the event.  The shift is approximately 8 hours with multiple breaks.  
• Sunday (August 2^nd):  You will work 4 hours of dismantle on Sunday.  We dismantle the event and pack up the materials.  At the end of this shift you will receive your stipend check and swag mentioned above, provided you have fulfilled your volunteer committment.

You must be available at all the times listed above to be eligible for Full Time status.  Please do NOT make travel arrangements outside of this schedule unless you have prearranged an alternative schedule with TD HQ.  We cannot guarantee hotel accommodations if you do not have the details arranged with TD HQ BEFORE you accept your schedule.

** Part Time Volunteer Committment **

If you are a Part Time volunteer, you are required to help out during these hours at Gen Con 2020:

** Local Install and Dismantle Benefits **

• Stipend:  If you complete all your shifts, at the end of the dismantle shift on Sunday (unless noted otherwise), you will be given all the swag listed below plus a stipend check.
  • Local Install & Dismantle: $150
• An EXCLUSIVE Ultra Rare token:  Local Install & Dismantle volunteers receive an Ultra Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive token (Greater Garnet Charm).
• TD T-Shirt and Swag Bag
• Ten 10-packs of 2020 Treasure Tokens
• FREE Gen Con badge (will be distributed after completion of Wedneday shift)

** Local Install and Dismantle Committment **

• Monday and Tuesday (July 27^th and 28^th):  Install shift from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. (Light dinner provided)
• Wednesday (July 29^th):  Install shift from  9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. (Lunch provided)
• Sunday (August 2^nd):  There are two dismantle shift options.  You have the following shift choices on your application:  
  • 12:01 AM to 4:00 AM (Night Crew):  For efficiency reasons, it is absolutely vital that we clear out all the lighting, sound and electrical components from the dungeons before the event volunteers arrive for their dismantle shift Sunday morning. These volunteer slots are limited, and preference is given to those that can hustle without supervision and are comfortable quickly dismantling A/V and electrical components – being tall is a plus, too! At the end of this shift you will receive your check and swag. You are done, and you only had to work four hours! Please do not select this option if you are not able to work late hours, as your stipend check will be forfeited if you cannot function.  IMPORTANT: We CANNOT guarantee that you will be placed on night crew. We need many more people on day crew than night, so if we don’t have room you will be placed on day crew. Please make every attempt to not make plans (travel or otherwise) that would prevent you from working day crew if that is where we need you.  
  • 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Day Crew): You will be leading the event volunteers in the dismantling of the event, packing/wrapping pallets, etc.  At the end of this shift you will receive your check and swag!

You must be available at all the times listed above to be eligible for LIG status.  Please do NOT make travel arrangements outside of this schedule unless you have prearranged an alternative schedule with TD HQ.

** Fill In Volunteer Benefits **

If you are selected as a Fill In volunteer, you will receive the following benefits:

• If you complete your shift, you will be able to pick up a True Dungeon Volunteer t-shirt and swag bag on Sunday (August 2^nd) from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

** Fill In Volunteer Committment **

If you are a Fill In volunteer, you are required to help out during these hours at Gen Con 2020:

• Wednesday (July 29^th):  You will have an All-Hands Meeting and Training on Wednesday evening.  This shift is mandatory.  If you have work or travel issues that will impact your attendance PLEASE let us know BEFORE accepting your schedule so we can see if we can accommodate the issue.
• Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (July 30^th - August 1^st):  You will work ONE of the three days of the event.  The shift is approximately 8 hours with multiple breaks.  

IMPORTANT: You must be available for all the times listed above to be eligible for fill-in status.  Please make sure you review the dates and requirements carefully before completing your application.  Exceptions cannot be made!

ANYONE interested in volunteering must fill out the volunteer application by April 17^th, 2020. All volunteers MUST fill out all the applicable fields. This information will be kept secure, and it will be used to select and schedule all volunteers. While we will accept applications AFTER 4/17/20, scheduling will begin 4/20/2020.  Apply before that date in order to have the best chance at getting the volunteer role you prefer.

Volunteer Commitment for Virtual TD

^{December 5th – 7th  (Friday – Sunday)}

Location Requirements

While this is a "virtual" event, some volunteers must physically come to Carbondale, IL. This is worked out on a case-by-case basis with each volunteer, but generally speaking all NPC actors need to be physically present at or near the TD Workshop during the event weekend. All Golems must be in Carbondale. We are able to train Virtual DMs remotely, so please consider that as an option if travel is not possible. Please indicate by checking the box on the next page if you are UNABLE to physically come to Carbondale.

Virtual DM Requirements

Due to the "virtual" nature of this event, ALL volunteers applying for DM positions must possess at least intermediate computer skills, have adequate internet, be familiar with the Windows operating system, and provide their own computer systems*, the specifications of which include:

• OS: Windows 10 or above (Sorry, Macs are too difficult to support on this one.)
• CPU: Core i7 CPU (or AMD equivalent) or better
• GPU: DirectX 10.1 compatible GPU
• RAM: 12GB RAM or better
• Storage: Solid State Drive preferred
• Peripherals: Headset with a good microphone. A second monitor is helpful, but not required. You may opt to use a webcam so your players can see you in training if you wish.
• Experience: Above average computing skills and previous experience with OBS/Streamlabs is a huge plus. Please include any relevant experience in your "additional info" on the last page of your application.
• Note: We're intentionally setting these requirements a bit higher and narrower than is strictly necessary. We want to avoid unforeseen difficulties and configurations we haven't tested ourselves. Please be willing to close background processes, etc., in order to free up resources if necessary. 

The last page of this application asks for a URL that shares your system specs with us. Please visit http://specr.me and follow the instructions. You will be given a URL that shows us your specs!

*We have a limited number of "loaner" machines. Check the box on the next page if you are interested in DMing but do not have a machine that is up to spec. Note that other requirements like having at least intermediate computer skills and adequate internet still apply.

There are two levels of commitment for Virtual True Dungeon Volunteers, however preference is given to volunteers able to make a Full-Time commitment for ease of scheduling. Part-Time volunteers who have paired up with someone to split a Full-Time position will be given preference over a lone Part-Time volunteer request. If you have paired up with another volunteer to split a Full-Time position, please enter this information in the "Additional Information" field of the application step 3 of 3, before hitting "Submit".

Approximate event start times for Grunnel’s Holiday Special Part 3 are as follows. These are the times that run slots START each day. Each run lasts for approximately two hours, so your scheduled time may run significantly later. Your schedule will depend on the position for which you are selected. NPCs and golems must be available until after the last party has gone through their rooms. The schedule of a VDM is dependent upon their position in the Run of Show. VDMs that wish to be placed earlier/later on the Run of Show make sure to reply to the Run of Show Requests email that will be sent out prior to the event! All times listed are Central Time (Carbondale local time).

• Friday 4:36 pm - 9:00 pm 
• Saturday & Sunday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm

• Full-Time -- Volunteer Full-Time (DM Training/Playtest Run in advance of event, Tech Check on Thursday before event, event days Friday - Sunday. If you are in a role OTHER than DM and have not been trained in that position, the DM Training/Playtest Run is optional and virtual training will be arranged prior to the event weekend.)
• Part-Time -- Volunteer one or two days. Part-Time volunteers must be able to participate in the volunteer training required for their position. The easiest way to secure a Part-Time position is to team up with another volunteer to split the Full-Time shift. This makes scheduling easier. Stipend and swag is dependent on the number of days that you volunteer. Full-Time volunteers will be scheduled first, with two Part-Time volunteers splitting a Full-Time position scheduled next.

Due to the different type of event, the ONLY positions we need to fill are DMs, 2 Coaches, NPCs, and a few Admin positions (Innkeeper/Epilogue). Please keep this in mind when choosing your volunteer role of choice.

**Full-Time Benefits**

Full-Time volunteers receive the benefits listed below after successfully completing all shifts. Physical items are shipped to remote volunteers after the event weekend concludes. In-person volunteers receive their physical items after their final shift.

• Stipend: If you satisfactorily complete all your shifts, you receive all the swag shown below plus a check for an amount depending on your volunteer position.
  • Trained VTD DM or Coach:
    • $350 onsite with hotel provided (out-of-town vols)
    • $400 remote or onsite local (no hotel)
  • VTD NPC (actor):
    • $400 onsite local 
    • NOT A REMOTE POSITION
  • VTD Innkeeper, Epilogue, or Bluehand (backstage crew):
    • $300 onsite with hotel provided (out-of-town vols)
    • $350 remote or onsite local (no hotel)
  • VTD Golem (camera-person):
    • $400 onsite local (no hotel)
    • NOT A REMOTE POSITION
• An EXCLUSIVE Ultra-Rare Token: Full-Time volunteers receive their choice of one of our 2025 Ultra Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive tokens: Charm of the Champion (UR) or Charm of Valkyrie’s Kiss (UR)!
• One To-Be-Announced Holiday Themed Completion Token
• Both Survivor pins.
• One XP card.
• Twenty treasure draws (actual treasure, not chips for future draws).
• Free Hotel Spot: We have a limited number of spots in hotel rooms. Out of town volunteers may qualify for a free spot in a hotel room with two queen or double beds. NOTE: Hotel room availability (check in and check out dates) will be pre-arranged with TD HQ via e-mail prior to the event.
• Bonus for volunteering at multiple events: If you successfully volunteer Full-Time at three different events in calendar year 2025, you get the extra bonus of an Ultra Rare token of your choice from the 2024 or 2025 standard print runs (subject to availability). This applies to both virtual and in-person events. This bonus also stacks with Part-Time events both virtual and in-person. For example, if a vol works two Part-Time shifts for VTD Runeheim Reforged, VTD Runeheim Revenged, and Grunnel’s Holiday Special Part 3 (six shifts total), and also works Full-Time at Gen Con (three in-dungeon shifts) they would be eligible for a PYP. PYPs are tracked by HQ, and you may request your current PYP status at any time by e-mailing volunteer@truedungeon.com.
  • NOTE: Please bear in mind that while in-dungeon shifts are what is counted toward the total, volunteers are still expected to show up for install/teardown/tech check/etc. shifts as required by their role at each event. Failure to attend those shifts without prior written permission from TD HQ may disqualify a vol from the PYP program.

**Full-Time Commitment**

If you are a Full-Time volunteer, you are required to volunteer during these hours:

• Monday evening TBD (date tentative and subject to change - volunteers will receive e-mail notice of final playtest date and time): Playtest of the module at 5:30pm. This is scheduled so far out in order to give the programmers the most time we can to make any changes for issues discovered during the playtest. NPCs in attendance will be expected to read their dialogue from the module during this playtest.
• Thursday, December 4th (DMs only): DM Tech Check at 5:30 pm Dungeon (Central) Time. Other positions will have pre-event training at a different time to be determined after schedules go out.
• Friday, December 5th – Sunday, December 7th: Work VTD event during hours listed above. There is one shift per day, with multiple break periods during each shift. Volunteers who are in a TD-provided hotel can choose to leave at the end of the event Sunday OR you can stay overnight and checkout Monday. TD HQ will contact volunteers in TD-provided hotel rooms to discuss arrival and departure dates prior to the event so that reservations will be accurate.

You must be available at ALL the times listed above (role dependent) to be eligible for Full-Time status. Please do NOT make travel arrangements outside of this schedule unless you have pre-arranged an alternative schedule with TD HQ. We cannot guarantee hotel accommodations if you do not have the details arranged with TD HQ BEFORE you accept your schedule.

**Part-Time Benefits**

Part-Time volunteers receive the benefits listed below after successfully completing their shifts. Physical items are shipped to remote volunteers after the event weekend concludes. In-person volunteers receive their physical items after their final shift.

  • VTD Golem (camera-person):
    • $65 per Friday shift, $125 Saturday or Sunday shift onsite local (no hotel)
• An EXCLUSIVE Rare Token: Part-Time volunteers receive their choice of one of our 2025 Rare, limited-edition, volunteer-exclusive tokens: Charm of the Hero (R) or Defender Greaves (R)!
• One To-Be-Announced Holiday Themed Completion Token

Schedules are sent approximately three weeks before the first day of the event from the True Dungeon Volunteer Coordinator to confirm your duties at VTD. Virtual True Dungeon – Cravenmoor: Tower of Blood

January 23^rd – 25^th, 2026

Virtual TD events are run with a combination of remote volunteers and on-site volunteers at our workshop and office in Carbondale, Illinois. Please consider carefully whether or not you are willing to travel to Carbondale and indicate this preference in your application.

Approximate event start times for Tower of Blood are listed below. Each individual volunteer’s schedule will depend on the position for which they are selected. For example, an NPC in Room 2 will have an earlier start time than someone in an Epilogue role.

Friday, January 23^rd – 5:00pm to 9:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

Saturday, January 24^th – 10:00am to 7:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

Sunday, January 25^th – 10:00am to 7:00pm Dungeon (Central) Time

FULL TIME

Full Time volunteers all work a full shift each day of the event. Additionally, there are two pre-event preparation and training sessions. The Adventure Playtest is open to all volunteers but is required for Virtual DMs and NPCs. The DM Tech Check is closed to everyone but DMs and DMs-in-Training, who are required to attend.

Please refer to this table for requirements by role:

The Adventure Playtest typically takes place about ten days before the event, but the date is variable. Playtest details will be communicated to volunteers via email from volunteer@truedungeon.com.

The DM Tech Check takes place the night before the event starts (Thursday, January 22^nd, 2026) at 5:30pm Dungeon (Central) Time.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:
  • Virtual DM - $500
  • NPC - $450
  • Player Coach - $400
  • Admin (Innkeeper or Epilogue) - $350
  • Golem - $450
  • DM- and Admin-in-Training - $300
• Volunteer Exclusive Ultra-Rare token (Charm of Banewatch) OR 2x Volunteer Exclusive Rare tokens (Belt of Biting)
• Survivor pins from the event
• XP card from the event
• Participation token from the event
• 20 random treasure draws

PART TIME

Part Time volunteers work one or two days during the event. Part time Virtual DMs are still required to attend both the Adventure Playtest and Tech Check as mentioned in the Full Time details above. Refer to the table below for Part Time requirements by role:

The Adventure Playtest typically takes place about ten days before the event, but the date is variable. Playtest details will be communicated to volunteers via email from volunteer@truedungeon.com.

The DM Tech Check takes place the night before the event starts (Thursday, January 22^nd, 2026) at 5:30pm Dungeon (Central) Time.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Part Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. Part Time stipends differ depending on this shifts worked as some days have shorter shifts than others. Refer to the table below for this event’s Part Time stipends by role:

• Survivor pins from the event
• XP card from the event

• 20 random treasure draws

MULTI-EVENT VOLUNTEERING PICK-YOUR-PURPLE BONUS

Volunteers who work multiple events are eligible for a bonus Ultra Rare token of their choice from the 2025 and 2026 Standard Pack Ultra Rare tokens. In order to earn this PYP, volunteers must successfully complete either 3 events as a Full Time volunteer, 9 total Part Time event shifts, or some combination of the two. Both Virtual and In-Person events are counted towards this.

TD HQ tracks volunteer shifts for this PYP bonus. You may inquire about your PYP status at any time by emailing volunteer@truedungeon.com.

Here are three examples of volunteers earning their PYP:

• Joe T. Vol works as a Full Time VDM for the January VTD, a Full Time Player Coach for the March VTD, and then volunteers Full Time as a Combat DM at Gen Con. After Gen Con he picks a Charm of Fickle Fate as his bonus token.
• Anna May Vol is unable to work Full Time around her other responsibilities. So, she works 1 shift for the January VTD, 2 shifts for the February VTD, 2 shifts for the March VTD, 2 shifts during Gen Con, and 2 shifts during Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con she chooses to add a Bead of Greed to her collection.

A NOTE ABOUT IN-TRAINING ROLES

Training remotely is a tricky process, and we try to give all of our volunteer trainees the best chance to succeed that we can. Admins-in-Training will learn both the Innkeeper and Epilogue roles. Our usual process is to go through the process and then have the trainee work with the players in a supervised environment during the event. Both of these jobs are fairly simple to train and can be done Part Time if needed.

Virtual DMs must be trained Full Time during an event weekend. After attending both the Adventure Playtest and DM Tech Check they spend their Friday shift getting programs installed and then getting familiar with all the different tools. They will spend the rest of the weekend observing other VDMs and working one-on-one with one of our experienced VDMs to make sure they understand the VTD DMing process. On Sunday, if both the trainee and the VDM they’ve been working with feel comfortable, they will DM for players in a supervised setting. Virtual DMs must go through an event as a VDM-in-Training before they can do an event as a VDM without supervision.

Player Coaches are one of our least-needed roles in VTD. They are trained individually on an as-needed basis.

In-Person True Dungeon – Ring Con

May 29^th – 30^th, 2026

Ring Con is a specialty event hosted by True Dungeon in Marion, Illinois. For now, we are only accepting Full Time and Local Install applications.

Approximate volunteer shifts for Ring Con are listed below. These times are based on event ticket start times and are not the only times volunteers will be needed. Each individual volunteer’s schedule will depend on the position for which they are selected. For example, an Innkeeper may start at noon and be done by 8:00pm, but an Epilogue volunteer in the same dungeon will start and end two hours later.

Make sure you are available for ALL TIMES for your preferred commitment level listed in the table above before completing your application.

FULL TIME

Full Time volunteers all work an Install & Training shift on Thursday, a full shift each day of the event (Friday & Saturday), and a four-hour Dismantle shift on Sunday.

Full Time volunteers are expected to attend all scheduled shifts in order to earn their stipend and swag.

Full Time volunteers are eligible for a spot in a True Dungeon provided hotel room in a hotel near the event location. There are no connected hotels. Standard hotel details are as follows:

• Check-in on Wednesday, May 27^th
• Check-out on Sunday, May 31^st
• Rooms booked with two double beds
• 4 volunteers MAX per room. We will not crowd rooms.
• NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS. Only the volunteers TD puts on the reservation should be staying in these rooms.
• TD covers room and tax costs. One volunteer in each room must put down a card for incidentals.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Full Time volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Stipends vary by role. For this event Full Time stipends are:
  • Coach or Combat DM – $500
  • Specialized Roles (NPC/DMs, Traveling NPCs, etc.) – $450
  • Single Room NPCs (i.e. Combat NPCs, Puzzle NPCs that do not DM) – $350
  • General Volunteer (Admin, Bluehand, Epilogue, Puzzle DM, etc.) – $300
• Volunteer Exclusive Ultra-Rare token (Charm of Banewatch) OR 2x Volunteer Exclusive Rare tokens (Belt of Biting)

LOCAL INSTALL & DISMANTLE

Local Install volunteers work three days of install (Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday) and one day of dismantle (Sunday). Our spots for Local Install volunteers are extremely limited. Priority will go to experienced install vols who are familiar with our team’s build process.

Local Install volunteers ARE NOT eligible for a spot in a TD-provided hotel room. If traveling from out of town, Local Install vols are responsible for finding their own accommodations.

Upon successful completion of their scheduled shifts, Local Install volunteers will receive the following benefits:

• Stipend – Payable via check, Venmo, or a Funds Credit towards a future online token order. Local Install volunteers for Ring Con will earn $400.
• Volunteer Exclusive Ultra-Rare token (Charm of Banewatch) OR 2x Volunteer Exclusive Rare tokens (Belt of Biting)

MULTI-EVENT VOLUNTEERING PICK-YOUR-PURPLE BONUS

Volunteers who work multiple events are eligible for a bonus Ultra Rare token of their choice from the 2025 and 2026 Standard Pack Ultra Rare tokens. In order to earn this PYP, volunteers must successfully complete either 3 events as a Full Time volunteer, 9 total Part Time event shifts, or some combination of the two. Both Virtual and In-Person events are counted towards this.

Here are three examples of volunteers earning their PYP:

• Joe T. Vol works as a Full Time Combat DM for Ring Con, a Full Time Player Coach at Gen Con, and a Full Time Combat DM at Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con he picks a Charm of Fickle Fate as his bonus token.
• Anna May Vol is unable to work Full Time around her other responsibilities. So, she works 1 shift for the January VTD, 2 shifts for the February VTD, 2 shifts for the March VTD, 2 shifts during Gen Con, and 2 shifts during Gamehole Con. After Gamehole Con she chooses to add a Bead of Greed to her collection.
